ORIGIN STORY
A Wake-up Call
On October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in the Middle East ignited a ripple effect across our community. In the days that followed, many of our neighbors—especially those from Jewish, Muslim, and Palestinian backgrounds—faced fear, blame, and harassment.
In Central Florida, something different happened too. People looked around and said, “This isn’t who we are.”
At an emergency community meeting, 150 diverse leaders representing education, faith, government, law enforcement, nonprofits, business, and student organizations came together to confront the urgent challenges. Out of candid, respectful dialogue, they formed the Central Florida Pledge.
Together They Asked
A Movement Emerges
A time of grief and outrage quickly became a turning point. Out of which, The Central Florida Pledge was born, laying the foundation to create — America’s Most Welcoming Community.
A Shared Commitment
What started as a shared concern quickly became a shared commitment—crafted by people from every part of the region who chose to move forward with kindness, courage, and clarity.
A Network Was Formed
The start of something new, a network of people who don’t always agree but believe in showing up—for one another, for their community, and for the future of Central Florida.
Every year awards are given to people and organizations who go above and beyond to serve our community and grow The Pledge Network.
Our Mission
To build networks of individuals and organizations across differences, which humanize and empower people to stand up for one another through relationships, learning, and conscious action.
Our Vision
To be America’s most welcoming community where neighbors treat each other with dignity and respect especially when we disagree.
A New Standard
When you sign The Pledge, you’re choosing to live by values that transcend politics and ideology. You’re committing to:
Respect
Every person matters. Every voice counts.
Courage
Speak up when it’s easier to stay silent.
Community
We’re stronger when we show up for each other.
Integrity
Do what’s right, even when no one’s watching.
Action
Words matter. So do the choices we make every day.
Cooperation, Not Perfection
We’re not perfect. And we’re not asking you to be. What we are asking for is resolve—the kind that keeps showing up, keeps listening, keeps trying. This movement is about everyday people doing what they can, where they are, with what they have. It’s about choosing empathy when it’s not easy, and action when it matters most. Because real community isn’t built in ideal conditions—it’s built in real life.
Volunteer
People who step forward fuel The Pledge. Wherever you want to engage—events, programs, or mentoring—there’s a place for you. Be part of our volunteer network and help create America’s Most Welcoming Community.
